A Guide to the Hidden Spirits and Bars of Dark Harbor 2018

In 2017, Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor revealed a renewed focus on the libations available during the Halloween season. Not only would bars dot the midway on shore, but in an unprecedented move, a few would even be hidden inside the mazes themselves. These secret little speakeasies return for 2018, and while they aren’t easy to come by, they’re certainly worth the effort.

To access the bars, guests will need to interact with the ghoulish denizens of the Queen Mary. For those who curry their favor, they’ll be rewarded with tokens containing clues as to where exactly to look. Each one of these tokens match up with one of the mazes (except one, that isn’t contained within a maze), and contain a clue to how to find it within the maze. Once it’s found, these fortunate souls will have access to a bevy of specialty cocktails. Here are some of the ways that you can instill yourself with some liquid courage during the 2018 season.

DOOR 13 (DEADRISE)

Inside the rusted confines of Deadrise, pay attention to the Hatch numbers. You’ll soon find Hatch 13, and if you have the right token, you can can enjoy the following:

S.S. Curacao: Blue curacao, gin or vodka, lime juice, simple syrup

Watery Grave: Spiced rum, grenadine, Coke, lime juice

THE LINE UP (B340)

Those who search for glowing scratch marks on the walls of B340 and make friends with the brash detective may find themselves rewarded for his companionship. After knocking twice, a wall will open and grant access to The Line Up. Not only can guests enjoy their drinks against the familiar height chart of a classic line up, they can peer into one of the more gruesome scenes of the maze, and hit a button to interact with unsuspecting others. Inside The Line Up, if guests are so inclined, they can order the following:

Corpse Reviver #2: Absinthe, vodka, Lillet, Contreau, lemon juice

Suicide: Mezcal, tabasco, Cholula, meat stick

SEANCE LOUNGE (LULLABY)

Located near the end of Lullaby, the Seance Lounge is easy to find and doesn’t require any sort of search or password. Guests can enjoy tarot card readings, or they can indulge in these concoctions:

Green Gummy Bear: Watermelon-flavored vodka, Midori, lime juice, soda, gummy bear

SIDEBAR (CIRCUS)

Conversing with the Ringmaster or bearded lady may get you closer to the Sidebar, located in the vanity room. This bar, located underneath the classic red and white tent of Circus, treats guests to these colorful drinks:

The Pickled Punk: Shot of whiskey, pickle juice chaser

Sprinkles: Cake vodka, RumChata, frosting & sprinkles

BROKEN COMPASS (ENGINE ROOM)

The Broken Compass is the one and only secret bar not hidden inside a maze, instead setting up shop in the gargantuan Engine Room of the Queen Mary. The Captain can provide you with a hint on how to find it, or you can look for an oversized anchor across from the 4D theater marking its entrance. Here, all other specialty drinks found at Dark Harbor can be ordered, as well as this one:

S.O.S.: Jagermeister, ginger beer, lime juice

Dark Harbor 2018 is more immersive, more intense than ever before, so perhaps it’s a good thing that terrified guests will be plied with such varied delights. But these potential victims would do well to keep their wits about them; the ship is plenty tipsy itself.

Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor runs on select nights through November 2. Information can be found at https://www.queenmary.com/calendar-of-events/dark-harbor/home/.
